A Professional Body is an organisation with individual members practicing a profession or occupation in which the organisation maintains an oversight of the knowledge, skills, conduct and practice of that profession or occupation. The roles of professional associations have been variously defined. Many professional bodies are involved in accrediting degrees, defining and examining the skills and competencies necessary to practice a person, and granting professional certifications to indicate that a person is qualified in the subject area. The major professional associations that ties the Mechanical Engineering Graduates include ASME, IEI etc.

ASME (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers)

ASME is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research, and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a non-profit Organisation. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global. Department of Mechanical Engineering is proud to have the acceptance of the approval for the “Student Chapter” in Mar Baselios Chritian College of Engineering and Technology.
