A REPORT ON TRAINING AND ORIENTATION PROGRAM ON DRONE TECHNOLOGY
Fini Fathima, Associate Prof., EEE Department and Venma Prabhash, Asstistant. Prof. EEE Department attended a comprehensive training program on drone technology organized by Garuda Aerospace in Chennai from 8th July to 12th July 2024. The training covered essential aspects of drones, including their basics, simulation, flying techniques, and assembly.
The training program was structured to provide participants with a solid foundation in drone technology. Each day was dedicated to specific modules, ensuring a progressive learning experience.
Day 1: Basics of Drones
The first day focused on introducing the basics of drones. Topics covered included: Stakeholders and basic laws with respect to Drones, Drone Payload and Installation, Introduction to Drone data Analytics, Definition and classification of drones, Components of a drone: frame, motors, propellers, flight controller, etc.
Day 2: Anatomy of Drone
Basic principles of flight and rotorcraft operations, Risk assessment and Safety of Drones, weather and meteorology were studied.
Day 3: Drone Simulation
On the third day, the training delved into drone simulation. Key aspects covered were: Introduction to drone simulation software. Hands-on experience in simulating flight scenarios. Practice sessions to understand control interfaces and flight maneuvers virtually. Participants engaged in simulated missions to experience real-time challenges and decision-making processes.
Day 4: Drone Flying
The fourth day marked practical training in drone flying techniques which were conducted at Flying School of Garuda Aerospace, the highlights included:
Safety protocols, regulations for drone operations and pre-flight procedures. Hands-on flying sessions were conducted under the guidance of experienced mentors. Participants learnt essential skills such as takeoff, landing and navigation.
Day 5: Drone Assembly
Disassembly and assembly of drones was the focus of the final day. Activities included: Understanding drone assembly kits and components, Step-by-step guidance on disassembling and assembling a drone from scratch, Troubleshooting common assembly issues and calibration processes.
Participants gained insight into the mechanical and electrical aspects of drones, enhancing their understanding of customization and maintenance. The training concluded with a recapitulation of key learnings and a certification ceremony.
Conclusion
The training program at Garuda Aerospace provided a comprehensive and immersive learning experience in drone technology. The sessions were interactive, with demonstrations of various drone models to illustrate theoretical concepts. It equipped participants with foundational knowledge in drone basics, simulation, flying techniques, and assembly. The hands-on approach, coupled with expert guidance, ensured that participants developed practical skills essential for leveraging drones effectively across diverse fields.
